Tony Stark has done it again. Robert Downey Jr., who played Iron Man, has topped Forbes’ list of the Top Earning Actors for this year. Downey Jr. earned an estimated $75 million between June 2013 and June 2014, which is the same amount he made in same period last year.
Downey Jr. reigns as Hollywood’s highest paid actor because it would almost impossible for Marvel to continue producing “Iron Man” and “Avengers” movies without him. The Marvel films’ starring Robert has almost brought in $4 billion at the global box office, not to mention millions generated on home videos, and selling of movie merchandises.
Marvel, which is owned by Disney, wants to keep on milking the cow for as long as it can, and love it or hate it, that means that they’re willing to pay Robert whatever he demands. During negotiations for the upcoming sequel of the Avengers movie, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, the 49-year-old actor has secured more money that has been upfronted to him than before. The movie is bound to be a huge success, and that will earn him even more at the end of the day.
Downey Jr. isn’t the lone superhero is the list of highest paid actors. Former wrestler Dwayne Johnson has been ranked second on Forbes’ list with an estimated $52 million, thanks to the hugely successful action franchise “Fast and Furious”.
Third on the list is Bradley Cooper, who currently gave his voice to the Rocket Raccoon in the forthcoming Marvel flick “Guardians of the Galaxy.” His estimated earnings were $46 million last year. He also earned big from movies like, “The Hangover” and “American Hustle”.
Leonardo DiCaprio, came in fourth with an estimated $39 million in earnings, not surprising as both “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “The Great Gatsby” films did better than previously thought in the box office this year.
Finally rounding up our top five on Forbes’ list of Top Earning Actors is newbie Chris Hemsworth. The Aussie actor, who plays Thor, earned an estimated $37 million, from the “Thor” franchises.
Meanwhile, Downey Jr.’s new movie, “The Judge” is expected to open at the Toronto Film Festival 2014. The event is set to run from September 4 to 14. The David Dobkin directed family drama also stars Robert Duvall, Vera Farmiga, Jeremy Strong, Dax Shepard, Billy Bob Thornton and Vincent D’Onofrio.
In “The Judge” movie, Downey Jr. plays Hank Palmer, who revisits his childhood home, where his estranged father and town’s judge, played by Duvall, is being held as murder suspect. Hank embarks to find out the truth, and along the way he reconciles with the family he left years ago.
