It appears like Michael Jackson continues to make big bucks even from the grave!
The deceased “King of Pop” earned $160 million over the last year, putting him on top of Forbes magazine’s “Top-Earning Dead Celebrities” list. This is the third time Michael has topped the list, and he reclaimed the No. 1 spot from late actress Elizabeth Taylor from last year.
Surprisingly, that amount of money is bigger that any surviving celebrity until now. Recently, Madonna was named Forbes No.1 earning artist on their “Celebrity 100”. The 55-year-old “Queen of Pop” racked in around $125 million between June 2012 and June 2013.
Per Forbes estimates, most of the Michael’s money from October 2012 to October 2013 period came from the two Cirque du Soleil shows, which includes the touring “Immortal” show that has brought in over $300 million since it started its business in 2012. Michael, who passed away aged 50, also earns from his music and his share in the Sony/ATV portfolio.
Meanwhile, the late “The King of Rock ‘n Roll” Elvis Presley took second spot in the “Top-Earning Dead Celebrities”, generating around some $55 million over the year.
Michael dies on June 25, 2009, just weeks before his comeback concert, “This Is It”, which was expected to begin at the O2 Arena in London.
